Flagler County is putting residents in the informational driver’s seat with its free smart device app – U Gov Flagler – that provides 24/7 problem reporting, road closure information, as well as a community key that provides information such as garbage collection days, school zones, voting districts, and tropical weather evacuation zones.

The application, which is available as a free download for both iPhone and Android platforms, has been in development for nearly two years by the county’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team.

“This is a big day for us here in Flagler County. We are so excited to be able to offer this easy-to-use app to our residents, because we know it is a game-changer,” said County Administrator Jerry Cameron. “Our GIS team was very creative in customizing tools already available to them to arrive at this wonderful solution.”

One of the more robust components of the application is the Flagler Virtual Reporter that allows residents to report non-emergency problems within unincorporated Flagler County. A broad range of issues can be reported including road maintenance, downed trees, wildlife,  inappropriate land use, blight, and health concerns – like mosquitoes. Photos of the issue can be uploaded as part of the report.

Residents can track on their mobile device the status of their issues: submitted, received, in progress, or completed. Individual notifications will be sent to the reporter as the work order moves through the completion process, and will receive a satisfaction survey when the work has been completed. Finally, the submitter will be able to rate the county through the “Citizen Problem Satisfaction Survey.”

“This app really streamlines the process for dealing with everyday issues,” said GIS Manager Darlene Pardiny.  “You report it, the appropriate department supervisor receives and reviews the report, staff is immediately assigned to address the issue, and it becomes part of the workflow. The great thing is that you can track the status, and you will automatically be notified when the work is finished.”
